Spring is finally here, and that means men’s softball! I haven’t really played church softball for the last three years and probably wouldn’t play this season, had we not started an over 40 team.  We had enough players sign up to have three teams, and we play in three different divisions.  All the old grizzled veterans play in the B division.

Our pre-season tournament was this past weekend.  On our old guys team we have sprinkled in a few sons to help us out and fill out our rosters.  The amazing thing is that we won the tournament!  Our other teams placed second and third in their divisions.  Looks like the old men still got it.

The thing I enjoyed the most was the fellowship with the guys.  Even though I like to win, that seems to be a far less priority than hanging out with the guys and having fun.  I am blessed with some wonderful friends.

Proverbs 18:24

24 A man of many companions may come to ruin,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Racquetball

Racquetball

3.16.09

In my old age I have taken on a new sport - Racquetball.  When I would go to the fitness center to work out, I watched some of the guys playing.  They make it look so easy.  It’s not!

I signed up to play in the D-League, which is for beginners.  I had only played a few times in my entire life.  I am getting slaughtered on the court.  And I’m not losing for lack of hustle.  In fact, I am the one doing all the running!  The key is learning how to strategically place the ball and keep it away from your opponent.  Apparently I have not learned how to do that.

Right now my record is one win and three losses.  I keep telling myself all my hard opponents were in the first half of my schedule.  On the positive side, racquetball is great exercise.  Definitely more so for me than my opponents.

1 Corinthians 9:26-27

26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

It is possible to run and fight, expend a lot of energy and accomplish little.  We need to have a clearly defined mission and vision for our life, family and vocation.  If your goals are not clearly defined, you will never hit the target.  Let your primary focus be on that which is eternal.  In everything, keep the Kingdom of God in view.

Jack’s Big Day

Jack’s Big Day

3.9.09

I am blessed with seven adorable grandchildren.  This past Saturday, we celebrated my youngest grandson Jack’s one-year birthday party.  All the immediate family came over to the house.  I’m not sure he grasped what was going on, but I think he sensed he was the center of attention.  Diving into the cake had to be the highlight!

In some ways it was difficult, because there were pictures of Tania holding Jack when he was just a small baby.  She was such an incredible grandmother.  Jack would have loved her.

It is amazing how time keeps clicking along.  It seems like yesterday since we were at the hospital when Jack was born.  It has been nine months since Tania’s accident.  While going through the grieving process time has seemed to drag by, but as you look back, those events seem so fresh in our mind.  They say “time heals all wounds,” but the deeper the wound, the longer the healing process.  God promises “sufficient grace” to carry us through whatever the wound may be.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10

9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Thanking God for His Healing Grace,

Pastor Larry

Habakkuk 2:2

2 Then the LORD answered me and said:
“ Write the vision
And make it plain on tablets,
That he may run who reads it.

Last Thursday night, Friday and Saturday, we  had our Board & Staff leadership retreat on Fripp Island.  It breaks my heart to report to you that the ladies did not play fair, to say the least, in Taboo.  Therefore, any victory they may brag about was very hollow.  I don’t quite know how they sleep at night with such a guilty conscience.

The theme of my leadership training was ‘Vision’. We took a long look at where we plan to be in the next five years.

Last Thursday we closed on the purchase of our T.V. station, WLCN (We’re Lowcountry Community Network).  We are projecting June 12th, as the day channel 18 will be on the air.  Over the next five years we are believing God for exponential growth.  But our focus must always be on the Kingdom, to unify the body of Christ and see all churches blessed and growing in the Lowcountry.  And in 2010, we will launch our Faith Assembly Goose Creek Campus.

While this is not a typical blog post, I am so excited about the vision I just had to share it with you.  I believe we are going to witness the greatest harvest of souls ever!

In His Harvest,

Pastor Larry
